Have you ever closely inspected a live butterfly? They are breathtaking, but delicate creatures. A strong wind or dust storm could easily tear their wings and inhibit them from flying, yet butterflies don’t seem to mind the risk.
“Surely you remember how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how as we left, we came safely through the territory of enemy nations.” -Deuteronomy 29:16 TLB
In Deuteronomy 29, Moses is reminding the Children of Israel of how God has provided for them during the last forty years in the wilderness and of the miracles that He performed to deliver them from Pharaoh. It seems as if time has dulled the Israelites memory of and gratitude for God’s consistent goodness and mercy.
Doesn’t that seem familiar? We get that clean bill of health, car or career advancement and for a while are singing God’s praises. That is until the heat of life gets hot and our recollection of previous blessings get less and less frequent.
Butterflies never have the chance to consider the consequences of damaging their wings as the broken record playing in their brains is how God fertilized the flowers for their benefit and transformed than from a creepy crawlies to a flying wonders.
If a butterfly knows that with Jesus’ Love, they will surely fly, then what is stopping you and I?
