settled. part 2

Life is a circle and things often come back around…

The word, “settled” had been on my mental radar for a few days so I did a quick search through the archives of AD and voila, I wrote a post about being settled back in 2017. What was unsettling in my life 3 years ago? Well, I was a senior in high school, filling out college (and scholarship) applications, concerned about being accepted into my top choice school and suffering from senioritis. It was also an interesting year for the USA, as we had a presidential imagination, was hit hard by hurricanes and we witnessed a total solar eclipse.

So the true question is: Did I settle things back then? Yes and no. I did what I am coining, “situational-settling”, which is casting a specific thing, circumstance or person over to God but still retaining control in other areas. I was at peace with my senior year but not at peace with my years to come.

Similar to the stochiometry that I only learned enough of to graduate high school that popped back up in college, the issue of settling things in my life has caught up with me…once again!

Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.”

Luke 21:14-15 NKJV

In Luke 21:7-19, Jesus is talking about the signs of the end times. He mentions “upheavals of every kind”, “kingdoms against kingdoms” “terrible earthquakes”, ” horrible plagues”, “epidemics” and other catastrophic events. Just in the last couple of months, we have seen these things fulfilled and what is Jesus’ advice? To settle our hearts and trust that he give us words and wisdom to be victorious!

Jesus tells us in John 16:33 that in this world, we will have trouble but to take heart for he overcame the world. Proverbs 19:23 says that those who fear the Lord live a full life and are “untouched by trouble”.

In other words, trouble will come…actually trouble is already here, yet we are unfazed by the trembles of fear and know that prevailing above satan is inevitable!
