For a minute imagine that you are the sole writer of your life’s story. God is switching roles with you, allowing you to completely orchestrate the steps of your life. You get to pick where you’ll live, what you’ll do for a living, who you’ll marry and even attempt to safeguard against any of the possible issues that might arise in life. You triple check your life plans before you proudly slide them in front of God for his evaluation. He has an unreadable expression, as he thumbs through your carefully crafted proposal. After he’s done, he smirks at you saying, “I’m underwhelmed, are you sure that’s all you want?!”
“Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energizes you.” -Ephesians 3:20 TPT
As someone who likes to be in control and know the plan from the beginning to the end, it takes a thought exercise such as the one above to put me back in my rightful place! I have to credit my mother for always finding ways to apply God’s Promises when I’m feeling overwhelmed and for reminding that God’s plans are truly and exponentially full of possibilities.
