“I just want you to be happy, even if that ‘happy’ doesn’t include me anymore.” -Young Ira, The Longest Ride
It takes a true and supernatural love to want the absolute best for someone, even if that happy life…doesn’t include you. Love is selflessly disregarding yourself for the advancement of others, who are worthy of that sacrifice. In addition to earthly love, this is also applicable to spiritual love, between us and God.
Do you love God,
More than the disdain for your flaws?
More than the confusion over His plans?
More than the pain, physical or emotional?
My heart screams, “Yes Lord, I do! Thank You for making me!”, but then my mind whispers, “Well God, I don’t understand why I feel this way!” And this type of double-mindedness never gets me anyone productive…
“Now a certain religious scholar overheard them debating. When he saw how beautifully Jesus answered all their questions, he posed one of his own, and asked him, “Teacher, which commandment is the greatest of all?” Jesus answered him, “The most important of all the commandments is this: ‘The Lord Yahweh, our God, is one!’ You are to love the Lord Yahweh, your God, with every passion of your heart, with all the energy of your being, with every thought that is within you, and with all your strength. This is the great and supreme commandment. And the second is this: ‘You must love your neighbor in the same way you love yourself.’ You will never find a greater commandment than these.” -Mark 12:28-31 TPT
Take away our passions, energy, thoughts and strength and we really are
nothing but a lump of clay! How amazing is it that God wants all of us, even the parts that we don’t like, He loves! 🙂
You should love yourself because God is love and He created you in love! Staring back in the mirror is not a reflection of just you, but a silhouette of what God’s love looks like in human form…
