Though there be many things in my head, few of them are in my heart.
Although, I am very much in touch with my surroundings and the world around me, I do spend quite a bit of time in my thoughts. My free time consists of reading, writing and scrapbooking…all activities that are pretty thought intensive 🙂
If you even take a moment to think about what you are thinking about, you will quickly realize that there are some crazy and erratic thoughts that pass through our mental atmospheres! Just because your mind tells you that eating a whole sweet potato pie in one sitting is okay, doesn’t mean that it is.
I love how Proverbs 4:23 NIV, explicitly tells us what to guard. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Guarding our minds is practically impossible since we cannot stop thoughts from force entry. Now what we can do, is refuse to accept those thoughts, annihilating them before they take root in our hearts. We ultimately are custodians of our minds and guardians of our hearts.
Before you lay down to sleep tonight, a thought contradictory to God’s Word is going to race into your mental highway, at a million miles an hour. It may be about your self-esteem, career, weight or family member or something entirely different. Whatever the thought may be, I can promise you that it will be personal and paralyzing, if you don’t exterminate it from your heart’s garden before it takes root.
So like you (forgive me, if I am being presumptuous), I’ve got my work cut out for me…two fold. Current negative seeds in my heart must be shoveled out AND potential incoming ones must be stopped!
Until Thursday,
