As a wonderful creature, fashioned in God’s nature, the power to love the unlovable and forgive the unforgivable is already within you.
matthew 5:44 tpt
However, I say to you, love your enemy, bless the one who curses you, do something wonderful for the one who hates you, and respond to the very ones who persecute you by praying for them.
Isn’t that counter-intuitive? To love our enemies, bless those that curse us and do nice things for people that we know hate us!
When I look at how Jesus conquered temptation, I realize that he had feelings just as I do, but he didn’t let his feelings rule his life. If I was Jesus, I would have been tempted to keep an “Exempt from Salvation” list, reserved exclusively for all those that had wronged me, crucified me and did anything else atrocious. God knew that being Jesus was not quite my calling 🙂 !
Jesus walked in your human shoes and practiced what he preached, providing you with a great role model of how to handle difficult people. It is never about you and your feelings, but about others and the love that you bestow upon them.
You are a trailblazer for love, showing that spiritual love supersedes carnal feelings and even goes out to the seemingly-undeserving (people like you and me)! You get the chance to emulate Jesus and love others, in the same unconditional way that he first loved you!
