Faith: Hoping & Longing
Embrace the gift of being able to have emotions, yet stay in control of them!
ecclesiastes 2:25 msg
“For who can eat and who can have joy, apart from Him?”
“All the feels” is simply defined as experiencing either a range of emotions. 2020 has definitely been a year full of all the feels! I’ve laughed and I’ve cried but through every emotion, high or low, I know that God was with me.
Emotionality is often looked down upon in both the secular and spiritual spheres as a weakness. As with anything in life, I believe that balance is key. Emotions are only capable of causing havoc in our lives if we grant them that power. Although our feelings can never be relied upon as regulators in our lives, they can be useful indicators. When an event occurs, we respond and that is by God’s Design. The ability to feel, communicate and work through emotions is exclusive to humans.
In Psalm 56:8, when he found himself captured, David told God, “You’ve kept track of all my wandering and my weeping. You’ve stored my many tears in your bottle—not one will be lost.
For they are all recorded in your book of remembrance”. In Job 8:21, Job’s friend Bildad, reminds him of God’s goodness saying, “He will fill your mouth with laughter; your lips will spill over into cries of delight.”
The feelings that you encounter in response to situations do not go unnoticed by God. He cares about us, in our complete entirety…everything and anything that is important to or impacting our lives is on his radar.
Acknowledging the longing that goes in hand with hoping (equally faith), validates the emotional connection to what we are believing God for and how we are feeling while we wait!
