Enduring

[WARNING: The following post is both long and thought-provoking, depending on your attention span, it might need to be read in two days.]

I can’t help but consider the senseless and tragic events that happened yesterday. My heart sinks a bit every time the “breaking news” segment appears. I can’t help but think of all the time I have taken my loved ones for granted. My mind trembles a bit every time grieving family members are shown. This world can be a scary, heartbreaking and unsafe place. In moments like these when my heart and mind fail to understand the events occurring around me, I am reminded of one person that endures.

Any human being with a moral conscience is still reeling from the question of “why”.  “Why would God allow this to happen?” “Why would God give and take someone’s child/spouse/mother/friend away?” God doesn’t allow evil; He is not the ruler of darkness. God doesn’t permit destruction to be bestowed upon His children; Satan does. God doesn’t give and take away; He gives and continues to give.

If you truly believe that God gives and takes away, I respectfully ask you to do two things:

1) Read John 10:6-10 MSG

Jesus told this simple story, but they had no idea what he was talking about. So he tried again. “I’ll be explicit, then. I am the Gate for the sheep. All those others are up to no good—sheep stealers, every one of them. But the sheep didn’t listen to them. I am the Gate. Anyone who goes through me will be cared for—will freely go in and out, and find pasture. A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.”

2) Ponder these questions

Why would God give His only Son as a sacrifice for you, only to curse/kill you later on?

Why would Jesus die to redeem you from sin, death and all of Satan’s devices, just to leave you to the wolves?

Why would God invite you to dwell in His presence of peace, protection and provision, only to abandon you?

I can’t serve a God who I believe plays a game of love me, love me not with my life and feelings. Bad things that occur are the direct result of either a) Satan, who is the prince of this world or b) lapses in judgement. As I look over my life, I can associate nothing but praise for all the amazing things that God has done and has continued to do. I refuse to dishonor the grace and mercy that He amply and daily showers on me, by attributing unpleasant circumstances to His doing!

In closing, let me say that I encourage you to believe what you wish. Anomalous Darlings is not a place of wrong or right, black or white, tall or short, skinny or fat, or any other superficial categories, but a safe haven of honesty amongst both yourself and others. The purpose of this post is to foster reflection on where our views of God come from. Have ever questioned the notion, “God gives and takes away.” or have you just went along with it, because its hundreds of years old? Whichever way you choose to view God is your choice. God is so omnipresent that He is large enough to be whoever we want Him to be!

Until Sunday,

P.S. This post is much more lengthier and controversial than I anticipated! Oh, the places The Holy Spirit will take you, if you let Him…
