Between Spirit & Flesh

Happy Sunday, time seems to be flying by!

“Then He comes to the disciples and finds them sleeping; and He tells Peter, “So couldn’t you keep watch with Me for one hour? Keep watching and praying, so that you won’t enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Matthew 26:40-41 TLV

Quarantine has put pressure on my relationship with God ―the good kind! I am seeing how in some ways, I’ve used the hustle and bustle of daily life to drown out things instead of dealing with them. Another lesson I am learning is that I have to daily referee between my spirit and flesh. Unlike accepting Christ, it is not a one and done.

Being a goal-oriented person, I’m not too fond of the idea that I can’t permanently end the feud between the two and check it off my list. Thankfully, Jesus has set a wonderful example and I just have to follow his lead

I see three options for fighting (and winning) the war between the spirit and the flesh.

1. Strengthen the spirit

  • Praying & Making confessions
  • Thinking positive
  • Memorizing scriptures (that relate to struggle)

2. Weaken the flesh

  • Fasting
  • Removing triggers (such as music, TV, etc.)
  • Memorizing scriptures (that relate to struggle)

3. Strengthen the spirit and weaken the flesh

  • Combining both 1 and 2.

There isn’t a right or wrong way to gain victory over the flesh and secure peace of mind. The best answer depends solely on where you are in your spiritual journey and will likely change throughout your life.

Be encouraged, we are in this together and Jesus has already won it all for us!
